Trainer Highlight: ABOW Owner Jean Sullivan
What classes do you teach?
I currently teach private sessions, as well as ITT Pilates Workshops and Master Classes.
How did you get started in the fitness field?
I was a professional dancer in my 20’s and 30’s and heard about Pilates through a dance studio. When I had a dance injury I went to St. Francis Dance Medicine Department where they use Pilates for dance rehabilitation. When I decided to end my dancing career and look for something new, I was drawn to Pilates and Physical Therapy. I studied both, getting my Pilates Certification from Madeline Black in 1994 and then went on to study PT. I ultimately decided I preferred working in the studio environment, teaching Pilates with an emphasis on rehab. I returned to work at St. Francis Hospital as a Pilates instructor and PT assistant, and then bought A Body of Work studio from Madeline Black in 1998.
What’s your favorite part about working at ABOW?
I feel so privileged to work alongside the best of the best instructors in the Bay Area! I'm continually inspired and motivated by my fellow instructors and I love that we all enjoy sharing our knowledge with each other. I feel like we support each other like family and it makes me happy to come to work!
