Trainer Highlight: Margaret Tappan
What classes do you teach?
I am currently teaching private Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Gyrokinesis sessions both outdoors and via Zoom. In the fall, I will also be teaching courses online for ABOW’s ITT PILATES program. For me, the silver lining from this pandemic is that it has opened up so many new possibilities for the ways that we can connect to one another, train our bodies, and even explore the geography of our city. For example, I have discovered that I love training clients outdoors!
How did you get started in the fitness field?
I started studying Pilates when I was fifteen years old. It was a required class at the Houston Ballet Academy where I was studying to become a professional ballet dancer. I fell in love with the way these lessons helped me to strengthen and elongate my muscles as well as giving me greater control of my center. The Pilates system taught me how to take care of my body and especially how to prevent and respond to injuries. As my dance career was winding down, I discovered the Gyrotonic system and I fell in love with it instantly. The curiosity I felt at fifteen has turned into a life long exploration of the body in movement. I feel blessed to be able to continue this love as a trainer at A Body of Work.
What’s your favorite part about working at ABOW?
What I love about working at ABOW are my fellow trainers. They inspire me with their creativity and deep love of learning. We make a great team! I also love the location. To be able to work inside San Francisco’s Presidio surrounded by so much natural beauty, fresh air, and light is just incredible.
